The Congress on Monday joined other Opposition parties, including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Paattali Makkal Katchi in boycotting the June 27 by-poll to Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency, from where Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is seeking re-election to the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

TNCC President E.V.K.S. Elangovan alleged that the by-poll may not be held in a fair manner.

In a statement, he claimed officials had failed to prevent an “unusual” situation from prevailing in the constituency.

Mr. Elangovan also alleged that money was being distributed in the constituency.

DMK, PMK and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam besides others had announced boycotting the by-poll raising apprehensions over the fair conduct of the election besides alleging money distribution.

Ms. Jayalalithaa returned as Tamil Nadu CM on May 23 following her acquittal by the Karnataka High Court in the disproportionate assets case.
