: S.P. Shanmuganathan, a former Minister and a sitting MLA, on Friday lodged a complaint with the city police, alleging that the AIADMK MLAs were in illegal detention.

In his complaint, Mr. Shanmuganathan said that he was asked to attend the MLAs’ meeting at the AIADMK headquarters in Royapettah. After the meeting, the MLAs were told to make arrangements for spare clothes and were taken to the MLAs’ Hostel in three buses.

“Then, we were taken to the residence of Edappadi K. Palanisamy, the Minister of Highways and Public Works Department, and made to sign minutes of the meeting and two blank papers. No MLA was permitted to move freely and our movements were restricted,” he charged.

“We were informed that we would be taken to an unknown destination in the same buses. Around 7 p.m., I was able to escape from virtual confinement. The other MLAs have been kept in confinement,” he alleged.
