Chennaiites to get voters' details over SMS

The Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla on Tuesday launched the Chennai Corporation's service of providing voters' details over text messages (SMS).

The service is available only for voters within Chennai city limits, where there are 27,20,673 voters. Of this, 97.83 per cent of the voters' images are available on the electoral rolls. Voters can SMS VOTE (Space) EPIC number to 51913 to get details including name, constituency, serial number and polling booth. If voters do not get any response to the SMS, it means their names are not on the rolls. Such persons can contact the concerned Electoral Registration Officers in Chennai Corporation Zonal Office to include their names in the electoral rolls.

Chief Election Officer Naresh Gupta and Chennai Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni were present during the launch.

Mr.Navin Chawla also inaugurated a photo exhibition on 60 years of elections in the country at the Lalit Kala Akademi. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. till July 11.
