The AIADMK general secretary, Jayalalithaa, on Saturday emphasised that the CBI had fallen short by naming only Kanimozhi, DMK MP, in the second charge sheet relating to the 2G spectrum case.
In a statement here, she said the Chief Minister, M.Karunanidhi, had put forth a “convoluted defence” of his daughter. He had denied the scam itself. He had sought to blame the developments in the investigation as part of an “upper-caste conspiracy against his brand of Dravidian politics.” She said the Rs.1.76 lakh crore scam was too large to be just wished away. The scam was very real.
Ms.Jayalalithaa said it would be better if Mr.Karunanidhi, instead of putting the blame on all and sundry, did some serious introspection. She posed certain questions to the DMK leader which included as to how much money did Dayalu Ammal invest in Kalaignar TV and where from did she get the finances; Is Dayalu Ammal a stake-holder on her own strength or is she representing her branch of the Karunanidhi family? How much money did Ms.Kanimozhi, a 20 per cent stake-holder, invest and where from did she get the money to make the investment?
She said Rs.214 crore was received by the television channel from the DB Realty Group. It was not a single transaction, but several transfers over a period. Why was the money received? Why should a Mumbai-based real estate firm make such a large investment in a just-launched Chennai-based television channel, she asked.
