March 17, 2010 01:33 am | Updated 01:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

Principal Sessions Judge P. Devadoss on Monday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of two persons against whom a case has been registered for allegedly collecting a huge amount from a woman of Andhra Pradesh after promising to cure her skin disease. The Judge passed the order on the advance bail application by Jagdeesh Kumar and his wife Anila.

In the intervening petition filed through counsel V.S. Suresh and V. Venkatesan, K.S. Prasantha Lakshmi of Cudappah said after watching advertisements on television channels issued by Jagadeesh Kumar, son of P. Vijayakumar of Travancore Raja Vaidya Salai, Mylapore, and Anila, he met them at the medical centre for treatment of psoriasis.

They promised to cure her and accepted Rs.4 lakh from her, but there was no improvement in her condition. On the other hand, the treatment led to side effects and her health turned worse. When she consulted the duo, they got annoyed and refused to reply.

The petitioner submitted that she had come to know that P. Vijayakumar, father of Jagdeesh Kumar, had assured patients to cure their diseases and collected huge sums.

Vijayakumar was under detention under the Goondas Act.
