The police unearthed 950 bottles of spurious liquor from a house near here and arrested three persons in connection with the incident.

Following a tip-off that a large quantum of spurious liquor was stored in a house at Koodur near here, police personnel led by the Additional Superintendent of Police (Prohibition Enforcement Wing), Anarkali Begum, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahendran mounted a search at the specified house and recovered spurious liquor filled in around 950 bottles packed in 20 cartons. They also recovered 814 bogus holograms bearing the State government's Excise Department symbol.

During the search, the police arrested Shankar (28), Ganesan (30), and Murugadoss (32) in connection with the seizure of the contraband.

Assistant Commissioner, Excise, Vijayalakshmi, and TASMAC District Manager Shyam Sundar inspected the seized material.

It was found that the used bottles returned from the TASMAC retail outlets were cleaned and refilled with spurious liquor.

Police are investigating into various aspects of the trade, including the source from which spurious liquor was procured, how it was being channelised into the markets, and the persons behind the show. Further inquiry was under way.
