7 policemen injured in clash

The local people and the police clashed over staging of a dance programme at a temple festival in Kombadikuppam near Neyveli on Friday night.

Residents objected to police intervention and started pelting stones at them, injuring sub-inspector Mariappan and six others. They also blocked traffic on the Cuddalore-Vriddhachalam road.

Seven policemen, including a sub-inspector, and several residents were injured.

Seven persons have been taken into custody.
