Six senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the 1986 batch are set to be elevated to the rank of Director-General of Police (DGP) in Tamil Nadu.
The six officers are: M. S. Jaffar Sait, project officer, Tamil Nadu Police Academy; Srilakshmi Prasad, ADGP/Vigilance of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation; Ashutosh Shukla, ADGP/Inspector General of Prisons; Mithilesh Kumar Jha, on central deputation and posted in China, N. Tamilselvan, ADGP (technical services) and Ashish Bhengra, ADGP (operations), Chennai.
These officers were waiting for promotion more than year even after they completed more than 32 years of service. They appealed to the government seeking promotion on the ground that their batchmates in other States were elevated ahead of them.
The order issued by Additional Chief Secretary Niranjan Mardi said, “The Government of Tamil Nadu directs that the following IPS officers of 1986 batch in the ADGP be included in the panel of IPS officers fit for promotion as DGP.”
Sources said the posting orders will be issued soon.
At present, the State has five DGPs including head of police force T. K. Rajendran. Others are K.P.Maghendhran (1984 batch), Director of Fire and Rescue Services; Sangaram Jangid (1985), Chief Vigilance Officer, Metropolitan Transport Corporation and C.K.Gandhirajan (1985), DGP, State Human Rights Commission and J. K. Tripathy, chairman of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Service Recruitment Board (TNUSRB).
