50 top contestants participate in painting competition

The Central Ground Water Board Chennai conducted a State-level painting contest for schoolchildren at Grand Anicut on the banks of the Cauvery recently in which 50 top contestants from around Tamil Nadu schools participated and exhibited their artistic talents.

The contestants for the finals were chosen from among three top performers from each school that participated in the event. A total of 2,70,783 students from 3,337 schools had participated in the preliminary contest held at the respective schools in the districts. The selection committee of the CGWB selected the final contestants from the school toppers subsequently. The topic for the painting contest was Groundwater conservation, protecting rivers from pollution. A. Subbu Raj, Head of Office, CGWB, South East Coastal Region, Chennai, inaugurated the contest.

The winner was given Rs. 5,000, the runner up Rs. 3,000, and the third prize winner got Rs. 2,000. Consolation prizes worth Rs. 1,000 was given away to 10 participants while all the contestants were given away merit certificates.

Dean, Bharathidasan Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University, Dr. T. Senthil Kumar, presided over the valediction and gave away the prizes to the winners. Deputy Chief Engineer, PWD River Conservancy Division, Tiruchi Circle, R. Gunasekaran and Tiruvaiyaru DSP V. Sukumaran offered felicitations.
