A total of 37 candidates — two for Rajapatti panchayat president post in Thoppampatti union and Avichipatti panchayat president post in Natham union; and 35 candidates for the post of village panchayat ward members — filed their papers on the first day of nominations for local body polls in the district on Thursday.
No nomination was filed for the post of panchayat union, municipal chairman and municipal councillors and town panchayat presidents and ward councillors.
Election will be held for 3,846 posts — for 23 posts of district panchayat ward members, 232 panchayat union ward members, 306 village panchayat presidents, 2,772 village panchayat ward members, six municipal chairpersons, 123 municipal councillors, 23 town panchayat presidents and 363 panchayat ward members.
The last date for submission of nomination is 3 p.m. on September 29, according to election officials.
