302 petitions received at special camp

January 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - SALEM:

The City Municipal Corporation’s first special camp to receive applications for providing various certificates, and name transfers received a good response from the general public as 302 submitted applications in Suramangalam Zonal office here on Thursday.

The camp was inaugurated by Mayor S. Soundappan in the presence of Deputy Mayor M. Natesan.

Residents submitted applications for processing property tax, new water supply connections, birth and death certificates, and for obtaining building approvals.

Applications were received for name change in property and water supply connections.

Residents said that the camp paved way for receiving instant receipt of birth certificates without any hassle which would take three days when applied through the zonal office. About 20 officials received the applications from the public.

Officials said that after scrutinising the applications and documents, the applicant would be asked to submit more documents, if needed. They said that the camp, apart from eliminating middlemen, reduced the time taken by officials in providing the certificates.

Over 150 residents submitted applications during the camp held between 11am and 2pm at the office. A special camp would be held in Hasthampatti Zonal office on Friday in which residents of wards coming under the zone can submit applications.

The camp helped eliminate middlemen
