Three companies of paramilitary force personnel numbering 250 arrived in the district for security duty in the Yercaud Assembly constituency, where a by-election is to be held on December 4.
Two companies arrived by train on Thursday, while one company came on Friday from Andhra Pradesh. These companies, each consisting of more than 85 armed personnel, would be deployed in sensitive areas and in important places in the constituency and they will be on duty till counting of votes are over next month. Superintendent of Police K. Sakthivel told The Hindu that they would be deployed in consultation with the District Election Officer and the poll observer. “One more company will arrive on Saturday,” he said. Filing of nominations will be on from Saturday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on all days from November 9 to 16, except on November 10 and 14.
