As many as 265 village panchayats in the district will procure additional fogging machines to control mosquito population. The decision in this regard was taken at a District Planning Committee meeting held here on Friday.

District Panchayat chairman M. Shanmugamsaid that the decision to purchase fogging machines was made as a precautionary step since the monsoon has commenced.

District Collector G. Govindaraj asked the rural development officials to educate the ‘mazdoors’ appointed at the block level to reduce the sources for mosquito breeding and on the need to prevent water stagnation even inside the houses. Another issue that came up for deliberation was the bad shape of roads in Udumalpet municipality subsequent to the execution of underground sewage scheme. “We have asked the municipality and highways to carry out the repairs on a war footing”, Mr. Shanmugam said.
