21-year-old woman raped in Cuddalore, three held

The trio assaulted the survivor’s boyfriend, robbed them of a mobile phone and cash

The Cuddalore police, on Tuesday, arrested three persons in connection with the rape of a 21-year-old woman after assaulting her boyfriend at Kammiyanpettai near here on Monday night. The arrested were identified as J. Sabari alias Kishore, 18, of Kuppankulam, S. Arif, 18, of Pudupalayam and N. Satish, 19, of Thirupapuliyur in Cuddalore.

The woman has been admitted to the Cuddalore Government General Hospital.

According to the police, the survivor working in a private firm in Cuddalore, had gone out with her boyfriend to Kammiyanpettai on his two-wheeler on Monday night. The duo was talking in front of a building when the three accused persons spotted them.

They snatched the cellphone of her boyfriend and assaulted him. Kishore sexually assaulted the woman while two others caught hold of her boyfriend. The three robbed them of their cellphone and cash and fled the scene after threatening the victim’s boyfriend with dire consequences.

Police said the woman and her boyfriend left the crime spot and the latter dropped her at a bus stop in Manjakuppam. A police team on patrol noticed the girl and questioned her following which she narrated the incident. Subsequently, the victim lodged a complaint with the Cuddalore All Women Police Station. She was admitted to the Cuddalore GH.

Based on information given by the victim, the police zeroed in on the accused within hours and nabbed them. A case has been registered against them under Sections 341, 342, 294 (b), 323, 392 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code read with section 3 (2) of SC/ST Act read with 66 of Information Technology Act.
