Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has allocated ₹20 lakh for construction of additional classrooms at Kendra Vidyalaya at Konam here.

A statement issued by the minister’s office here on Friday said the school functioned with only two sections in all classes.

In Class I, 106 students studied in two sections against the sanctioned strength of 80 during the last academic year (2016-2017).

The demand for more seats in various classes was growing every year, with 583 applications received for admission in Class I during 2017-2018.

Of these, 80 were given admission in Class I while the rest of the applications were kept in waiting list.

When it was brought to the minister’s notice,

Mr. Radhakrishnan met Union Minister for Human Resources Development Prakash Javadekar on May 27 and requested for permission to open additional two sections in all classes at the school.

Mr. Radhakrishnan also allocated ₹20 lakh for construction of the additional classrooms from his MPLAD Fund for 2017-18, the statement added.
