2 detained under Goondas Act

Two habitual offenders who were involved in various offences were detained under the Goondas Act on the recommendation of Madurai Food Cell Superintendent of Police Saminathan and Dindigul Superintendent of Police A. Saravanan here on Monday.

The detainees were M. Ganapathy (42) of Tindivanam in Villupuram taluk, who was involved in smuggling PDS rice to other States, and K.M. Santhi (50) of Sandhamanaickenpatti near Thethupatti village, who was smuggling and selling ganja.

Dindigul Food Cell Police arrested Ganapathy on June 5 and seized 200 bags of PDS rice. He was lodged in Dindigul prison. Earlier, he was detained under preventive custody in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvannamalai districts in connection with smuggling of PDS rice.

Santhi smuggled ganja from another State and sold it in local market. The police had seized 25 kg of ganja from her during a raid on May 10. She was arrested and lodged in Nilakottai jail.

Collector T.N. Hariharan issued their detention orders. They were shifted to Madurai Central Prison.
