160 acres of encroached land recovered

Officials of the Revenue Department recovered close to 160 acres of encroached land, worth Rs. 1,161 crore, across several areas in south and north Bengaluru on Saturday. In Hulimavu, the department recovered 18 guntas of land in survey number 42 which had been encroached by a multinational company, according to L.C. Nagaraja, Assistant Commissioner, Bengaluru South Subdivision. Four acres of land was recovered in survey number 49 which had been encroached upon by a real estate developer.

“At Yellakunte in HSR Layout, around 15 acres and 11 guntas of land — spread across several parcels — on which houses had come up were recovered. The residents kept saying the plots were allotted by the BDA, but had no proof back their claims,” Mr. Nagaraja said.

The biggest chunk of land recovered on Saturday was around 12 acres and 31 guntas in survey number 69 at Haralakunte village, which, officials said, was encroached upon by a family living in HSR Layout. “There is a certain Chandramouli Reddy who holds the general power of attorney for the land and has been fighting cases in various courts. I issued an order to recover the land on Friday, and on Saturday, the operation was carried out and a compound wall constructed,” the Assistant Commissioner said.

Nearly 68 acres of land spread across several parcels was recovered across Anekal. “These are in parcels of 3, 5 and 2 acres and are mostly agricultural land which had been encroached upon,” Mr. Nagaraja said. Details of the land recovered in north subdivision were not immediately available.
