15 fishermen go missing

Incessant rain leads to flooding parts of Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari; landslips disrupt train services

Fifteen fishermen went missing in Kanniyakumari district and one person was killed in Tirunelveli district as the overnight torrential rain led to flooding in parts of the two districts on Wednesday. Landslips disrupted train services on Thiruvananthapuram – Nagercoil and Punalur-Sengottai sections.

Kanniyakumari Collector Prashant M. Wadanere has declared holiday for all schools and colleges on Thursday. The rain caused extensive damage to roads and standing crops.

Eight of the 11 reservoirs in Tirunelveli district are on the verge of reching maximum storage level. Discharge of water from Papanasam dam and Servalar dam that was stepped up triggered floods in the Tamirabharani. Following instructions from Collector Shilpa Prabhakar Satish, officials on Tuesday night alerted people living close to the watercourse
