12 fishermen released from British island

The 12 fishermen from Kanyakumari district who were arrested by the British Navy near Diego Garcia on April 19 were released on Saturday and they left for India on Sunday, according to P. Justin Antony, founder president, Tamil Nadu Fishermen Development Trust (TN FIDET).

The fishermen had ventured into sea from Cochin fishing harbour in a mechanised boatregistered in Kerala on April 10. The boat was owned by P. Nashian of Vattavilagam of Thoothur in Kanyakumari district. However, the officials of the fisheries department are yet to confirm their release.
