11-year-old girl drowns in pond

Ramanathapuram: In a tragic incident, a 11-year-old girl, studying class VII in a local school, drowned in a waterbody here while washing her school uniform on Sunday.

Police said the girl, Aiswarya, who was under the care of her grandparents, had gone to Pamboorani, which was deepened recently, to wash her school uniform when she slipped and fell into the waterbody.

Finding her struggling to come out of the water, some local people, who were on the other side of the waterbody, rushed to her rescue but she drowned before they reached the spot, the police said.

The girl’s parents were engaged in snacks business in Bengaluru, the police added. Kenikarai police have registered a case in this connection.
