: With the Supreme Court set to pronounce its verdict on the appeal filed in the disproportionate assets case involving Ms. Sasikala, Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao must postpone her imminent swearing-in as Chief Minister, urged PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday.
While acknowledging that Ms. Sasikala’s proposed swearing-in is on a legally strong ground, he contended that if she was convicted in the case, once again, outgoing Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam would have to be elected for the high office. “While the people are angry (over the development), even the AIADMK cadre are really upset with V.K. Sasikala’s ascension as Chief Minister,” he claimed. According to him, when “talented members” like ‘Panruti’ Ramachandran and School Education Minister ‘Ma Foi’ Pandiarajan are present in the AIADMK, they should be elevated as the CM instead of someone like Ms. Sasikala. “Only around 200 people — the MLAs and MPs — have accepted and supported her. Tamil Nadu is entering a dark, sad phase. They (the people) are angry. They are unable to accept a person like Ms Sasikala sitting on the Chief Minister’s chair that was once occupied by O.P. Ramasamy Reddiar, Kamarajar and Annadurai,” he contended.
Jaya death controversy
Meanwhile, PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Monday said that the explanations given by London-based critical care expert Dr. Richard Beale on the treatment provided to former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, two months after her death, raised more doubts rather than putting them to rest. He said that the only way to clear the air about her death was to get the matter investigated by a multi-disciplinary investigation team comprising CBI officials, doctors and judges.
In a statement, he said that Dr. Beale had stated that Jayalalithaa should have been admitted to the hospital a few days before September 22, 2016. “He says Jayalalithaa was already suffering from septicaemia. It is also being said that Sasikala and her family members were giving treatment to Jayalalithaa in her house. What disease was she being treated for?” asked Mr. Ramadoss.
The PMK leader added that Dr. Beale’s statements that Jayalalithaa would have been discharged had she not suffered a cardiac arrest, and that infection had played a role in her suffering a cardiac arrest, were contradictory.
