The Tamil Nadu government has decided to extend the suspension on the screening of the controversial film Dam 999 by six months.
Breach of peace and law and order due to screening of the film is the prime reason for extending the ban, according to an official.
Earlier, a two-week ban was imposed; it came into force from December 8. It was on November 24 that the original ban was imposed through an order of the Home Department. The six-month period will take effect from December 22.
Asked for his reaction, Sohan Roy, director of the film, told The Hindu on the phone that “we have no other choice than going to the Supreme Court again.”
On Monday, Mr. Roy appeared before State Principal Secretary (Home) Rameshram Mishra and presented his case against the ban. The personal hearing for Mr. Roy, originally scheduled for December 15, was advanced to Monday following the Supreme Court's directive to the State government.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court asked the Tamil Nadu government to hear the objections of Mr. Royon December 12 and pass appropriate orders by December 16.
