BJP president Amit Shah wants the women’s wing to strengthen the party’s presence in the North East and the Southern States that are not considered a stronghold for the ruling party.

On Saturday, addressing the Mahila Morcha of the party, Mr. Shah said women should take the lead in making a foray into these States.

He said the BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi walks the talk about women’s empowerment and an example of that is the appointment of seven women in the Council of Ministers.

The BJP-led NDA government, he said, gave India its first woman External Affairs Minister and there are two BJP-ruled States - Rajasthan and Gujarat - which have women Chief Ministers.

Encouraging the women members of the party to participate in the political processes, he said, they should serve as a link between the government and the voters and ensure that they not only provide a feedback from the ground to the party, but also help in creating awareness about government policies.

Mr. Shah urged them to start working in earnest for the forthcoming Assembly polls so that the party can look forward to success similar to the one it met in the Lok Sabha elections.
