The Samajwadi Party has reacted cautiously to the Supreme Court lifting the order restraining the media from publishing or telecasting the tapped conversations of the former party member, Amar Singh, with top politicians, including party chief Mulayam Singh.
“To make public the contents of the tapes is the decision of the Supreme Court …I have not read the script of the conversations [between Mr. Amar Singh and Mr. Mulayam Singh]. These are old conversations,” party general secretary and spokesman Mohan Singh told The Hindu here.
Lawyer Prashant Bhushan, who filed an intervention application for making the tapes public, welcomed the order.
“People of the country are entitled to know how their MPs behave,” he said.
In an interim order passed on February 27, 2006, the Supreme Court restrained the media from making the contents of the conversations public.
Mr. Amar Singh was to have addressed a press conference on Wednesday, but postponed it to Thursday.
