Soon, soft copy of ticket will do for air travel

December 31, 2012 11:05 pm | Updated January 01, 2013 01:43 am IST - NEW DELHI:

In a measure that will bring smiles on the faces of air travellers in the new year, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has decided to allow soft display of tickets on laptops, tablets and smartphones, instead of a printout of the ticket, for entering an airport.

Official sources said the BCAS notified the decision, which would likely take effect over the next few days. Sources in the Civil Aviation Ministry said the decision was also environment-friendly as it would help to save on power and paper.

In several cases, travellers either forgot to carry ticket printouts or misplaced them, facing inconvenience and avoidable hassle at the last minute of their travel, they said.

As part of their efforts at increasing revenue, airlines have been charging Rs. 50 for giving a ticket printout at the airport.
