Soon, High Courts in 3 northeastern States

A Bill to establish separate High Courts for Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura was approved by the Lok Sabha on Friday by amending the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971 and other related laws.

Minister of State for Home Mullapally Ramachandran, who sought the leave of the House for considering and approving the Bill, said the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) and Other Related Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2012 was an important step that the government had taken to address the hopes and aspirations of the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura and provide them easy access, speedy and cost-effective justice.
