The CPI (M) in a press statement on Wednesday said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s stand that the pricing details of the Rafale fighter jet deal could not be provided as they were “classified information,” was untenable.

“A defence deal involving multi-billion dollars cannot be kept confidential. Why is the government hiding this information from the sovereign authority of the country, the Parliament,” the CPI(M) politburo asked in a statement.

Parliament being denied information about a deal, which was being criticised as having created a huge and unjustified burden on the national exchequer, was not acceptable, it said.
