SC seeks CBI reply on Kushwaha bail plea

The Supreme Court on Monday sought the Central Bureau of Investigation’s response to a plea by former Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha for bail in the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission scam case.

Mr. Kushwaha has been in custody since March 2012. A vacation Bench of Justices A.K. Sikri and U.U. Lalit asked the CBI to respond by June 8.

‘Serious charges’

The court had in February this year dismissed Kushwaha’s bail plea, saying the allegations against him were very “serious” and it was a “good case for dismissal.”

The scam is being investigated by the CBI and has led to several persons being charge-sheeted. The trial underway at a special court in Ghaziabad.
