The Supreme Court on Friday refused to intervene in a Delhi High Court order granting bail to Karti Chidambaram, son of senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram, in the INX Media case.

A Bench of Justices A.K. Sikri and Ashok Bhushan dismissed the CBI’s challenge to the March 23 order of the High Court.

“Insofar as grant of bail by the High Court is concerned, we do not find any reason to interfere with the order. The special leave petition is accordingly dismissed,” the apex court recorded in its order.

Appearing for the CBI, Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that it was “impermissible in law” for the High Court to entertain Mr. Karti’s bail plea as another bail application was already pending before a trial court.

Mr. Karti was arrested by the CBI on February 28 from the Chennai airport and remained in police custody till March 12.
