The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to provide security to waqf board chairperson Zafar Ahmed Farooqui.

The Ayodhya Bench of the court, led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, took note of the communication addressed to it by the mediation committee that Mr. Farooqui apprehended threat, and directed the State government to take immediate steps to provide him security.

The letter was written by senior advocate Sriram Panchu, one of the mediators, the others being former apex court judge F.M.I. Kalifulla and spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
