Sakshi Maharaj: unaware of show-cause notice

January 14, 2015 01:40 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:32 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Controversial BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj on Tuesday said he was unaware of any show-cause notice served on him by the party and said that even if he received one, it was an “internal matter” of the party.

However, BJP organisation secretary Ram Lal told The Hindu that the notice was served late Monday night. Party president Amit Shah felt his statements were “damaging.”

The Unnao MP has been asked to explain within 10 days his remark that every Hindu woman must bear four children, and earlier about Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse being a “patriot.” The remarks had caused widespread outrage and were condemned.

The Congress, however, said the show-cause notice was not enough. “Sakshi Maharaj is symbolic of the politics of division. Prime Minister’s silence and such mild action encourages such statements,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.
