“I have completed 11 months of running the administration and I am content,” said Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, after giving the green signal to several developmental works and welfare schemes in the Sir. C.V. Raman Nagar Assembly Constituency here on Saturday.

Just hours before leaving for New Delhi in the midst of the political crisis in the State, Mr. Gowda, almost hinting at his own precarious post, said a true leader is one who works for the people and cares little about power. “Leaders should not have any hidden agenda. They should concentrate on serving the people,” he said.

Speaking about the achievements of the BJP government in the State, Mr. Gowda highlighted the Sakala scheme and said as many as 48 lakh files were attended to in three months, out of the 58 lakh applications. About the drought situation in the State, he said the government was already taking measures for intervention. He also mentioned the State government’s budget of Rs. 1 lakh crore as one of the highlights.

On corruption

The removal of corruption should begin from the third floor of the Vidhana Soudha (the Chief Minister’s office) and reach the grassroots at the gram panchayat level, Mr. Gowda said.

During the programme, meritorious students from SSLC and PUC were rewarded. Adding to that as many as 1,006 women were given Rs. 3,000 each for purchase of sewing machines, bonds for Bhagyalakshmi, Arogya Kavacha and Madilu Yojane were distributed, the distribution of Rs. 26 lakh worth of funds for SC/ST and economically backward candidates was initiated, financial support to ‘Stree Shakti Sanghas’ was promised, and tri-wheeler motorcycles were given away to people with disabilities.

Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy and C.V. Raman Nagar MLA S. Raghu were present, among others.
