The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a private lunch on Tuesday at a former palace in New Delhi.
Before going indoors, Prince William and his wife Kate strolled on either side of Modi, chatting and smiling before posing for cameras. Kate wore full-sleeved gauze green dress, while William donned a blue suit and Modi was clad neck-to-toe in white.
The four-course meal, including vegetarian dishes as well as meat, was served as Indian classical musician Rahul Sharma played the santoor. Sharma included in his performance a rendition of the Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’. Guests included several Cabinet ministers and business leaders.
The British royal couple later met with a group of women to hear about what’s being done in the country to help young women facing domestic abuse, discrimination or public assault.
Activist Laxmi Agarwal told William and Kate about her campaign “Stop Acid Attacks”. Agarwal was 15 when she was attacked by an older man after she rejected his marriage proposal. Prince William thanked her for her bravery, a statement from the Kensington Palace said.
The royal couple also interacted with a group of homeless boys at a shelter run by the Salaam Baalak Trust. They spent time reading and drawing with the teenagers. royal couple, during their interaction, did some of the regular activities with them such as reading and drawing.
The couple also had talked to two Salam Baalak city walk guides, who were formerly youngsters living on the streets of Delhi.
On Monday night, William and Kate wielded a sword at the British High Commissioner's residence on Monday night to cut a cake to mark the forthcoming 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth.
After paying tribute to his grandmother as “an energetic and dedicated guiding force for her family”, William read a message from the Queen. Striking a lighter note, he concluded: “Now I can report back to Granny that I have done my duty!”
