Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 17 said that the increasing support that the BJP had been receiving from the people of India was due to the end of dynastic politics and the rise of parishramwadi or hard work-oriented politics.

He was addressing a meeting of the national executive of the seven Morchas or special cells of the party, including the Mahila Morcha, Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Minority Morcha, Kisan Morcha, Scheduled Caste Morcha, Scheduled Tribe Morcha and the OBC Morcha. “Prime Minister Modi said that for the BJP, service of the people was paramount and that the morchas, when designing their programmes of expansion and outreach should keep that in mind,” said BJP general secretary Bhupendra Yadav in a briefing after the meeting.

“He added that what we are seeing now is the end of politics oriented towards a particular dynasty, and more towards those who serve the people with their hard work. That is the reason the BJP has been receiving increasing support from the people,” Mr. Yadav quoted Mr. Modi as saying.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the meeting, party president Amit Shah drew out three deliverables by the Morchas in the run-up to the 2019 general elections. “The Morchas have been asked to get in touch with 22 crore households earmarked by the party before 2019, to connect, from block and mandal level upward all Morcha workers via the NaMo app for the dissemination of information regarding government programmes, and to reach out to young and first-time voters to get them enrolled with the Election Commission and encourage them to vote.

“Reaching out to intellectuals and influential people in various districts and towns is also to be done,” said Mr. Yadav on Mr. Shah’s speech.

No mention was made of Karnataka or the events there except to congratulate B.S. Yeddyurappa for having taken oath as CM. It is the 21st State where the BJP has formed a government.
