Attacking the Modi government on its third anniversary, senior Congress leader Kamal Nath said this government’s tenure has been marked by “bravado, rhetoric and hyperbole”.
“The future of this country is dark from the economic and...social point of view. The country has never been so divided,” he said, adding, “The country is on the verge of seeing strife in the future.”
The Modi government is characterised by its skill at “media management, propaganda, platitudes and acronyms”, he said, while urging people to bring about a change in the politics of the country.
“India needs a massive political change. This change in politics is not only going to reflect in the politics of today but the politics of tomorrow,” he said, stressing that Indian voters were very intelligent.
Mr. Nath also demanded a White Paper on the government's failure to create jobs. People do not want to hear speeches, he said, but want to know the government's employment strategy based on the hard facts of last three years. Mr. Nath said he feared that joblessness in the IT sector is not only going to cause economic problems but huge social issues. Employment is at a 15-year-low, he pointed out, even as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is spending ₹ 2,000 crore on the ‘Modi Fest’.
The government’s “tall claim” of 7.2% GDP growth has not translated into jobs or wealth creation, Mr. Nath said. While the massive loans of the government’s “crony businessmen are being written off”, the debt-ridden farmer is getting no help from this government, he said.
