The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has asked the Defence Ministry to send a factual report, within a timeframe, on complaints of ragging at a Sainik School in Jharkhand.

Media reports said several complaints of severe ragging emerged in the recent past from the school at Jhumri Tilaiya in Koderma district. One of the victims attempted suicide, while three others left the school.

According to a recent complaint received by the Commission, one student attempted suicide, having repeatedly been “ragged” by seniors, while another student, of Class VII, was “ragged” since his admission.

Yet another boy quit the school and went back to his hometown Ranchi to work in his father's tea-stall after he was forced to do 500 push-ups.
