Senior IPS officer Rajeev Kumar on Thursday made a public appearance after almost 20 days and completed the formalities of his anticipatory bail before a city court.
“The Hon’ble High Court had granted interim bail to Rajeev Kumar. In that respect he surrendered before ACJM (Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate) court today. The Court granted him bail and he furnished two sureties of Rs 50,000 as directed,” Gopal Halder, the advocate of Mr Kumar told journalists
Mr Kumar, who is posted as Additional Director General of West Bengal police (CID) was last publicly seen on September 13 , the day Calcutta High Court, withdrew the interim protection from arrest given to him earlier by the judiciary.
What followed in the next 20 days was a legal battle in different courts between Mr Kumar and the CB and teams of central agency visiting various places in the city looking for Mr Kumar.

Relief to the former Kolkata Police Commissioner came on October 1 when a division bench of Justice Sahidullah Munshi and Justice Subhasis Dasgupta accepted his interim bail petition.
While granting anticipatory bail to Mr Kumar the division bench has said that custodial interrogation as sought by the CBI was not an encouraging one. “ .as it does not inspire the confidence of this Court to justify custodial interrogation of the petitioner in this case, when he has rendered his cooperation substantially in the interest of investigation,” the order of the division bench said.
The CBI has been alleging non-cooperation and suppression of evidence on the part of Mr Kumar over past several months. On February 3, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sat on a dharna when CBI went to question Mr Kumar.
