Economist Vijay Shankar Vyas has resigned as Deputy Chairman of the Rajasthan State Planning Board, ahead of declaration of the Assembly election results.

Assignment

Though his resignation came as a surprise to the academic community here, Prof. Vyas told The Hindu that he had intended, ever since he took up the assignment in 2010, to serve only during the present regime.

The three-year tenure of the Board, which functions as the highest policy formulation body, will end next month.

Prof. Vyas said he would also resign as member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council before the Lok Sabha elections next year to facilitate the appointment of a new EAC.

As State Planning Board Deputy Chairman, he enjoyed the rank of Cabinet Minister.

Tenure

The three-year tenure of the Board, which functions as the highest policy formulation body of the State government, will end next month.
