Two foreign nationals, reportedly missing from Pune under mysterious circumstances, are taxing the resources of the police and investigating agencies.
A 29-year-old man from Yemen, who checked into a hotel in the city’s congested Nana Peth area on December 16, ostensibly vanished without a trace the same day and has been missing ever since.
On tourist visa
According to the police, Wajih Yousef Saleh entered the country on a tourist visa with a four-month validity period (December 3, 2014 to March 2, 2015). He checked into Hotel Choice and paid his advance.
“He filled his C-form (for foreign nationals) after telling the staff he would be staying at the hotel for some days. Saleh then left the pace the same day and did not return, leaving no clues of his whereabouts,” said a senior police official, adding that central investigating agencies were considering reporting his disappearance to the Yemen Embassy.
As he was on a tourist visa, Saleh did not contact the Foreigners’ Registration Office (FRO) to report his arrival in the city, confirmed Sanjay Patil, Police Deputy Commissioner, FRO.
Afghan military officer case
In another bizarre case, agencies have yet to trace an Afghan military officer who has been missing for more than 10 months now.
Despite a missing persons case registered at the Bhosari police station and a lookout notice issued by the IB four months ago, there has been no trace of Captain Adil Shah (34) -- who was undergoing training at the College of Military Engineering (CME) here to be an instructor in the Afghanistan Army -- since February 2014.
According to authorities, he came to India on a diplomatic visa and was registered at the FRO.
