Terrorism is major threat to humanity, says Modi at SCO Summit

While speaking at the SCO summit in Astana, on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “We have extensive cooperation with SCO nations. We want to deepen the focus on connectivity.”

During the speech, Mr. Modi said “Terrorism is a major threat to humanity.

“Will have to make coordinated efforts to counter the menace of terrorism.” he added

The Prime Minister said “SCO can devote attention towards climate change.”

Mr. Modi also thanked all the SCO members for welcoming India's membership.

Mr. Modi concluded his speech by congratulating Kazhakastan President Nazarbayev for successful organisation of the Summit and also conveyed his wishes to Chinese President Xi Jingping for hosting the next Summit.

Earlier, Mr. Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the SCO summit and discussed ways to improve bilateral ties hit by growing differences over a host of issues including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and India’s NSG membership bid. ( Read more )

On Thursday he met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif. India and Pakistan are to be inducted as full members of the SCO at the summit. Read more
