Post-Osama, Punjab seeks special security package

May 04, 2011 03:03 am | Updated 03:03 am IST - CHANDIGARH:

Keeping in line with the nationwide high alert following the killing of Osama bin Laden, Punjab Depty Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday urged the Union Home Ministry to sanction a special security package for the State to enable it to meet security threats and check the flow of narcotics from across the border.

According to an official communiqué, Mr. Badal, who is also the Home Minister, made the demand while speaking at a function.

Mr. Badal said that the security package was necessary owing to developments in the neighbouring country in the last few days. He also reiterated need for a special modernisation programme for the police to deal with serious challenges.
