Amit Shah, Nadda meet Jagmohan as part of BJP’s campaign on abrogation of Article 370 provisions

BJP chief Amit Shah and the party’s working president J.P. Nadda met former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Jagmohan on September 3 as part of the party’s contact and public awareness programme to reach out to leading members of the society over the Centre’s move to revoke provisions of Article 370.

The BJP has embarked on a month-long ‘Sampark and Janjagran Abhiyan’ exercise to seek people’s support on the decision to end Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370 of the Constitution, with its leaders and workers asked to fan out across the country to hold meetings.

“Met Shri Jagmohan Malhotra ji, former Governor of Jammu & Kashmir as part of BJP’s nationwide Sampark and Janjagran Abhiyaan, to spread awareness about the benefits of abrogating Article 370 & 35A, a historic decision, by PM Shri Narendra Modi ji,” tweeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accompanied Mr. Shah and Mr. Nadda to the meeting.

Mr. Jagmohan (91) is known for his hardline stand on the Kashmir issue and his opposition to Article 370. He was also a Minister in the first BJP-led NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The Union government on August 5 abrogated provisions of Article 370, which accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated the state into Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. — PTI

Congress alleges vendetta in Shivakumar's grilling by Enforcement Directorate

As the Enforcement Directorate grilled senior Congress leader D. K. Shivakumar for the fifth day in Delhi in a money laundering case, his party leaders in Karnataka once again cried foul saying their colleague was a victim of vendetta politics, a charge rejected by the BJP leaders.

State Congress President Dinesh Gundu Rao accused the BJP of using investigating agencies to “vindictively targeting” opposition leaders and said the party stood with Shivakumar while former MP, V S Ugrappa called it witch hunting and took exception to the leader being summoned on Ganesha Chaturthi day for questioning.

“Vindictively targeting opposition leaders, using agencies to harass and humiliate them is a specific agenda of BJP. D K Shivakumar has been bearing the brunt since two years. We are with him in this fight against an authoritarian regime,” Rao tweeted. - PTI

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written to Union Minister Arjun Munda and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, urging them for early payment of compensation to tribals and reconstruction measures in flood-hit areas in the State.

Mr. Gandhi, in a letter to the Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda, said his Parliamentary constituency Wayanad has a large population of Scheduled Tribes, which is home to many vulnerable tribal groups like the Kadars and the Kattunayakans.

He said as many tribal colonies are located in hilly areas, floods and landslides have destroyed their habitation and rendered their lands uncultivable due to the deposition of silt.
