Policeman injured, another kidnapped by militants in Kashmir

Militants shot at and injured a policeman and his sister in south Kashmir’s Shopian on Wednesday evening. In a separate incident, another policeman and a civilian were kidnapped in Pulwama, triggering a major combing operation. A police official said Constable Rayees Ahmad Lone was at home at Katho Hallan village when militants barged into the house and opened fire. "Lone suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to the nearby district hospital where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital in critical conditions,” said the police. His sister, Urfi Jan, also received bullet wound in the left leg and was shifted to the Army's 92 Base Hospital.  Constable Lone was is at present posted at District Police Line Shopian. Meanwhile, reinforcements were rushed to the area where the attack took place. In a separate incident, suspected militants kidnapped a policeman, Muhammad Ishaq, who works with the police's special operation group, and a civilian from Pulwama's Nowpora Payeen area on Wednesday night. "The incident is being followed up. Search is on to trace the kidnapped policeman," said an police official.

Earlier in the evening, militants also hurled a grenade towards a police installation in Pulwama’s Lassipora. No one was injured in the explosion. A Jash-e-Muhammad spokesman claimed the outfit fired grenade from an under barrel grenade launched towards the police post.
