Police seeking to frame noted sociologist: PUCL

January 30, 2014 12:26 am | Updated May 13, 2016 01:08 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The People’s Union for Civil Liberties has strongly condemned an attempt to “somehow implicate” sociologist Nandini Sundar for alleged links with banned Maoists in Chhattisgarh.

“This is yet another attempt by the Chhattisgarh government to threaten, intimidate and silence anyone raising issues of accountability,” a statement released on Tuesday said.

Badri Gowde, a Congress party worker held by police on Monday, had told journalists, in interviews organised while in police custody, that he had arranged meetings between Dr. Sundar and Maoists.

Dr. Sundar has denied the charges.
