Pilots raise air safety issue with Air India

September 09, 2015 03:46 am | Updated November 16, 2021 04:14 pm IST - MUMBAI:

The emergency landing of an Air India aircraft in New Delhi on Monday following >hydraulic system failure allegedly due to inadequate maintenance has given reasons to the airline’s pilots to demand decommissioning of Air India’s aging fleet.

“We have been demanding that these old aircraft must be phased out immediately as >passengers’ safety is being compromised, but no one is taking note. There are frequent snags and we have been forced to operate this old aircraft at great risk. Now it has happened again. Are we waiting for a disaster?” asked a pilot requesting anonymity.

In a letter dated March 26, 2015 the Indian Commercial Pilots’ Association had requested the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to look into the flight safety issues concerning the old aircraft (Classic A-320s) of Air India.
