PCI plea to withdraw case

March 08, 2014 03:19 am | Updated May 19, 2016 06:59 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Press Club of India (PCI) on Friday asked the Amritanandamayi Mutt in Kerala to withdraw the case against People and Kairali TV for telecasting an interview with Gale Tredwell, a former personal assistant of Mata Amritanandamayi.

The Mutt initiated legal proceedings against the two channels and its news presenter John Brittas for conducting the interview after Ms. Tredwell published her memoir ‘Holy Hell’. “The ill-advised move reeks of intolerance. It is against the idea of free expression,” said PCI president Anand Sahay in a statement.

“We ask the religious body to respect other institutions and resile from its objectionable stand and not interfere with the professional work of journalists. We call upon all journalist colleagues to view this matter with the seriousness it deserves,” the statement said.
