The police have arrested a woman schoolteacher for allegedly sexually exploiting a teenage student in Chandigarh.
According to the police, the 34-year-old woman, a science teacher, had been sexually harassing the 15-year-old student — she was giving tuitions to — for the past two months. The boy, a Class X student, lives in the same area as the teacher.
Police said the incident came to fore after the parents of the victim approached the teacher to inform her that they are withdrawing their son from tuition classes as his grades were falling.
“On hearing this, the teacher became abusive and locked their son in a room. It was only with the help of her neighbours that the parents were able to free their son,” said Gurjit Kaur, SHO at Sector 31.
The woman was arrested on Thursday, produced before the district court and sent to judicial custody.
A case has been registered against her under POCSO Act.
