A 50-year-old woman was murdered by a group of men and her 24-year-old daughter was raped on Sunday night in Jashpur district. The woman was killed after her daughter was raped before her. Nine persons, including the one who allegedly raped the daughter, have been arrested on Tuesday, Jashpur police administration told The Hindu . Police are still looking for two more accused.
“On basis of the woman’s statement we have taken the men into custody and sent them for a medical examination,” Jashpur SP, Manish Sharma said. All the accused are residents of Jharkhand and are aged between 19 to 30 years.
Mr. Sharma said that the men, some of them armed, knocked on the woman’s door in Bursa village. When she and her daughter came out, the men dragged them to a field at the back of their house.
“The daughter was confined to a room and allegedly raped by one of the accused,” said Mr. Sharma. Another officer said one of the accused confessed that it was a “planned killing” as the woman would practice black magic and cast a spell on the family of the accused. Reportedly, Ramlal Lohar, one of the accused, said his wife was unwell because of the woman’s witch craft, the officer said.
