Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who visited the Mahabodhi temple condemned the attack but maintained that security had been provided to the religious site. “Any condemnation of this incident would not be enough. Bodh Gaya is a sacred pilgrimage site and the key location for the faith of millions across the world. To carry out such an attack at such a place in condemnable,” he said. The government had always been on the alert and taken steps to ensure the security of the Mahabodhi temple and Bodh Gaya in general.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav held the government responsible for failing to act upon intelligence inputs.
LJP leader Ramvilas Paswan demanded Mr. Kumar’s resignation on moral grounds for failing to prevent the attack despite intelligence inputs.
