Veteran Odia actor Debu Bose passed away following a prolonged illness, at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Wednesday. He was 75. Bose had worked in more than 120 films, television shows and innumerable plays.

His family said the actor had suffered heart attacks on two earlier occasions and was kept on ventilator support in the hospital. The actor had started his career with Odia movie Tapasya in the 1980s.

Multi-talented Bose also worked as a choreographer for the Odia film Man Ra Akash . He was a disciple of Odissi dancer Late Guru Kelurcharan Mohapatra. His characters in Suna Chadhei, Sahari Bagha, Kaveri, Phula Chandana and Chaka Bhaunri won the hearts of millions. Born on December 2, 1942, the actor was associated with a regional theatre group ‘Diganta’ and had directed many plays.

Directors, producers and actors expressed grief over the demise of the veteran actor. “Bose was my mentor and his departure for heavenly abode has left a huge void in the Odia film industry,” said Pradyumna Lenka, a prominent actor.
